Activity on the Airfield this month

The MoD still have a small team of scientists on site during the next few weeks carrying out ground survey. So far they haven’t found anything interesting but have dug a large number of test holes.

Grass Taxiway

These seem to be drying out very quickly in the recent heavy rains. Do take care but we haven’t had any problems these last few weeks

Image Project

Jobs completed this last month include:

Things have slowed up on this front this month due to illness & holidays

We have had a major move around in the hangar as we start to get more aircraft.

New 40ft container arrives today to go on top of the engine shop. This will allow us to fit the gantry to support the maintenance area curtains

Container moves in hangar 103 in preparation for the erection of the high rise racking

Trench dug for the electric cabling to join the hangars

Arrivals & Departures

We welcome Brian Metters with the Chrislea Super Ace, a 1948 aircraft which we understand saw service with the Lahore flying club in India in its youth. We are expecting a Beech Bonanza from Switzerland later this month. An Alpi Pioneer ( similar to a Falco ) arrived today from White Waltham where life is getting very expensive apparently

Pilot will be running a full article on the Freelance in the next edition and this will carry lots of pics taken in the hangar as well as mentions in the text

Rissington Radio

We applied for a dedicated Ground Station frequency before Xmas. CAA have just informed us of delays in the allocation but have stated we will have it in early March 2008 We will need to have a number of certificated operators ( no the PPL Radio Licence will not do apparently ). Anyone wishing to volunteer would be most welcome

Website

The content and information grows by the week. We would welcome any suggestions for better and or new topics

Flying at the weekend means you must remember to contact the VGS for clearance before you taxi away from the hangar. Their mobile in the Control Caravan is 07786504892
